Missing de Lyme
In Trinidad there is a special word that doesn't exist anywhere in the world: Lyming. It is an artistic and creative way of doing nothing/hanging out with friends. What I found interesting was that physicists in Trinidad would also Lyme. At the University of the West Indies in Trinidad the faculty would Lyme in the Faculty Pub (the equivalent of the faculty club). The room was filled with professors from all disciplines with an incredible view of Trinidad's northern mountain range which spans the Caribbean sea for 60 miles. We drank fine aged rum and discussed anything from quantum phase transistions to pharmeceutical research in the rainforest to local caribbean politics. My academic experience at UWI was indeed a very enjoyable and rich experience. I miss it already.
Stay tuned for some pictures of Trinidad
Hmm, In another part of the West Indies (Montserrat) this usage of "liming" also existed when I was young. So Trinidad is not the only place, but it might be that it got exported from Trinidad via calypso songs and carnival (maybe the Mighty Sparrow?). When I encountered it, though, it was indeed hanging around socialising, but my understanding was that the purpose was specifically to hunt members of the opposite sex, and for more than just polite chit-chat. Now, I was too young to verify the reality of this at the time (it was all hearsay to a ten year old), and I now think it must have become a misused term. I hope so, because professors in the UWI faculty club.....!!??
I just found a nice essay about it here:

Your individual ideas produce new thoughts. Our community needs continuous improvements and requirements to avoid sterility and petrification. What dreams seperate us from other dimensions and other times? Our dimension appears to be circular and only one of many outside of our time. Galaxies, nebulae and black holes are only 3 of many more dimensions with their own time and space. Faith gets me there, reason is another path, math helps and logic is the clincher. I hope your proofs offer us a door to explore it all.
Good hunting!
