Commemorative Constitution Lunch

Img_0513_1 Today I finally met Stephane for lunch (he is the rightmost person on this picture, not in politics). After the outcome of the French Referendum on the European Constitution, it was very appropriate, that we went to an Indian restaurant. No we didn’t talk that much about the rejection of the constitution. What to say? I am sad that it was not approved, I am angry thinking at people who used the referendum for their own personal or political ambitions and those who invented arguments against better knowledge. For anything else, well, I think it became more than obvious that people do not trust any longer politicians, and if they sense an opportunity to say “no”, they take it. Too bad, that the issues are confused. Too bad, that a wonderful idea has been sacrificed for politics. Too bad, that Europe couldn’t make a strong enough point for its important reasons to exist. It is always easier to destroy than to construct. Any construction is always imperfect and therefore vulnerable. But in any failure there is a chance to improve for the future. Let’s hope.
