I hate them. I hate them. I hate them. I HATE THEM!!!!!!!!!!
Coming back from Fermilab yesterday morning, I went down to the garage in my building to fetch the bike: I slept an hour after the flight and was late for the ATLAS overview week, which started after lunch. I am not a member of ATLAS, but I want to see what is going on, as I will have to make a decision, if I would like to join ATLAS and when. There was a talk of Jean Illiopoulos, a famous string theorist, pointing out how it is unavoidable from his point of view that the LHC will discover new physics – the best reason to join, no? However, I still don’t know.
But see what I’ve discovered down in the garage: they’ve broken my car and stolen my new radio! I HATE THEM! Barbara offered it to me this summer for my birthday - …! It’s the second time they break my car, the first time, the radio was too lousy for them, I just had the repair costs for a new lock. Is it even worthwhile to repair it? If I would have left the car open, the result would have been the same, but much cheaper. And all the hassle to go to the police, to tell the insurance company, knowing already that the biggest part I will have to pay myself, etc.
Two years ago, they’ve also stolen my bike. A wonderful Peugeot 20 gear bike, simply perfect to ride in the city, fast and agile. A friend didn't need it anymore and let it to me, and I felt so embarrassed to tell her, that it was gone. I got another bike, a Gazelle, from Louis for my birthday a year ago, a used bike, probably stolen in Amsterdam, much less racy but a good solid bike, and apparently not up to the standards of Parisian thieves. Hopefully their standards remain the same, it looks like the only way to not be stolen - and buy back the bike from them in a used bike shop 2 weeks later. I hate them.
Bummer!
