Again I've been neglecting the blog. I really should get myself a routine that includes a regular slot that allows me to tap in a few words. Even Jenny has been complaining - school holidays and so bored that she needs to read my blog for amusement.
Well a first draft of the computing technical design report was produced before Easter. Some missing gaps but at least something is coming together.
Arrived back to Bristol the Wednesday before Easter. In fact I got in time to go to Jack's parent evening at school. This seemed to throw the teachers who know am based in Geneva. It's a bit disconcerting when you're recognised by the school from your photo on the web.
Thursday as a hectic day. A series of job interviews at Bristol. 15 interviews during the day by phone conference - with candidates based as far as field as China to Vancouver. We needed the 15 candidates just to cover the time zones! Shock, horror! - we even kept to the schedule. Next time you go for a job interview have some sympathy for the interviewer.
Thursday evening it was a trip up North for Easter. A nightmare journey. It took 2 hours just to get to north of Bristol. Every year I ask why do we go away at holiday time and sit in traffic jams. But we continue to do it. Well the real reason is I get to go to watch the rugby twice! And well worth while it was this year with Huddersfield registering two good wins. Well worth the past mignight arrival time back home after the game on Monday evening. (Could someone explain to me why the Huddersfield/Salford game had to be an evening kick-off ? As if anyone from Huddersfield or the RFL will be reading this!)
Back out to CERN on the Tuesday. Yes you guessed it straight into a set of meetings. At the weekend I got through hundred of applications for the CERN applied fellowship programme. This is in preparation for the first ranking meeting later this week.
This week has been dominated by the LCG storage management workshop. As this is the area I last wrote some code for in LHCb I felt I could attend with real reason and not just a management hat. Perhaps I'm fooling myself to expect I could write some more code - well I haven't given up hope.
Met up with an old colleague, Rod Walker, who is also attending the workshop and is currently based out in Vancouver. (Yes the same one who entered a comment on a blog a while back. He was complaining I wasn't updating my entries as well. Obviously a bigger audience than I thought - claimed his 13 month old son was a big fan. Anyhow I digress) Steak and chips were called for at L'Aviation (for this product placement I'd definitely take up any kick backs). A restaurant, as you may guess fron the name, is at the end of Geneva airport's runway. Unfortunately not washed down with plenty of red wine as I was driving. So I have to watch today the excess garlic from last night's meal. (A mention of food there for Gordon.)
