Yesterday,
my housemate Randy broke a shocking fact to me; a U2 song, With or Without You, arguably one of the
best rock songs of all time (and my karaoke favourite), only consists of four
chords, and they are dead easy; D, A, Bm, and G. Had I known this deep secret of
Universe when I was in high school (and received due gratifications from my
peers), I could have chosen a career in rock music instead of physics! I knew
some guitar cords from playing depressing, self-absorbing Japanese folk songs (like
Masashi Sada), not the kind of music which comes with a bunch of groupies. But
for the last 20 years, I kept playing these lame songs every time I find a
guitar at parties, when I could have been playing U2! What a waste of my youth!
Well, it is a bit too late to change my career now. But at least our next house
party will feature, MC Fujiwara, playing U2. Stay tuned!
