Stronger China-CERN Cooperation Expected

To_199day is the first day of the 2005 China-CERN Workshop on Cooperation in High Energy Physics. About 10 CERN physicists, including Prof. Robert Aymar (the CERN Director-General) came to Beijing. On the Chinese side, many HEP physicists and a few officials from MoST (Ministry of Science and Technology), NSF (Natural Science Foundation) and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) partici_198c_7pated in this workshop.

In the opening session, Prof. H.S. Chen (the director of IHEP) presented an overview of high energy physics in China, and Prof. Aymar introduced the on-going CERN programs.

Toda_195c_1y’s subsequent sessions covered ATLAS, CMS, LHC-B, ALICE, LCG, SPL and CSNS projects. The workshop banquet will be held in the 全聚德烤鸭店 nearby IHEP, where people may try PRD (= Peking Roast Duck) in a professional fashion.

Six parallel groups will work on the afore-mentioned topics or projects tomorrow. The status of BEPCII and the linear collider projects will also be discussed. A stronger and more fruitful cooperation between China and CERN is being expected.
