The Ides of March
The new accelerator and experimental schedule for the next six months came out today, and the schedule says that the commissioning period for the next G0 measurement will begin on the Ides of March.
I keep wondering if the Nuclear Physics Experimental Scheduling Committee is trying to tell us something, but I guess as long none of us are attempting to take control of Rome, we are all in good shape. :)

What "They" might be trying to tell you is that the "Government" has an incredibly difficult (read impossible) time first attracting and second retaining "talent". Now, you're obviously ten notches or so above "exceptionally talented" (there's actually not a category for it), so you would be doing the Department of Energy a HUGE FAVOR by working for THEM. You KNOW you can work elsewhere (it's called the private sector for the capitalists who are keeping score), and make BILLIONS as an entrepreneur. And perhaps you could do that as well on the side BEFORE you run into conflicts of interest with the GOVERNMENT. So if you're writing a grant and/or research proposal remember your scientific notation and tack on a few extra zeros somewhere. Believe me, NO ONE will notice. No one important anyway...
And never back down with them. They're not (and never will be) in a position to negotiate.
Hope this helps!

Now is a good time to make sure you there is no one named Brutus or Cassius on the experiment. Although, the Ides used to be considered auspicious...

What empire ARE you all trying to take over?

Empire? No, no, it's got nothing to do with that. My friend's birthday falls on the Ides of March. He just had a baby girl and we're trying to establish a college fund for her. Unfortunately, all of his paycheck goes to his mortgage, but if he had a higher paying job (based on his skill set) perhaps he could send her out of state.
It's supposed to be a birthday present!

What empire am I trying to take over? All of them, duh. :P
So, I'll be careful on these sorts of days, and thank you for the warning, Aaron. Oh, and I love the idea of making billions! Whee!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
