QD is close to its end, together with the World Year of Physics. I must admit that I'll miss reading many of the Quantum Diarists, and I'll miss writing, as well, even if for long periods I was not able to write regularly. This is going to be my last post. I'm back in Italy since a couple of days, and soon we'll go to the Alps: I will spend a few days with my family.
We were asked to write a summary about this 2005. For me doing "outreach" was something new, and I had a lot of fun, not only with QD but expecially organizing the Masterclass (actually we are going to have a 2 days Masterclass in 2006, since students liked it so much!). Another important moment was the EPS Lisbon conference, and of course my recent stay at Fermilab, the longest one in the last few years.
After a few days of rest, the new year will start immediately with a lot of activities: at the beginning of january we will have in Pisa a meeting of the Italian collaboration of CDF. After that, we will start with the "blessing" procedure of our analysis, in order to get our results approved by the collaboration and then published. At the beginning of this year I was pretty sure I was going to post this achievement on QD: unfortunately things were going slower than I thought.
Next year I will have to make important decisions on my future: although CDF is still producing interesting data and offers many opportunities to do interesting physics, this experiment, proposed more than 20 years ago, is approaching its final stage. What am I going to do next? I didn't decide yet, but I have to make a decision soon: whatever I will do, It would be important to join a project since its beginning.
Concerning my personal life, I cannot identify any particular event to associate to this 2005: being witness of my growing daughter, and helping her to discover the world and the life, is a wonderful "every day" event. I hope to be good enough in this task.
