These pictures are from the second Halloween party that I attended this year, a party thrown on Halloween night by one of the first-year graduate students in the physics department named Rita and her roommate Carla. It was a fun party, and there were a lot of interesting and fun costumes there. Here are some photographs of a few of them that I took when I wasn't up to no good. :) Sadly I wasn't able to get pictures of everyone. I somehow missed getting a picture of Vince in his Cat-in-the-Hat costume even! But I hope you enjoy the ones I did get.
The first picture above is of the hostess, Rita, and her pirate, Joe, who is also a physics graduate student. Pirates are cool. So are Indians. Enough said. :) Actually, this party gave me the opportunity to get to know Rita a bit better, and she is as cool as her costume suggests. The next picture (on the left) is of two grad students who also work at Jlab. Bryan (who is on the right) is a grad student on the HAPPEX experiment that I just finished taking shifts on. Rob (on the left) had a cool laser gun that made noise and that aluminum foil beanie with antennae. How do things get any better than that? :D I even shot him with his own laser gun. :) I love the ghost-garland on the wall behind them. The light shining through the garland made weird shadows on the walls, perfect for a Halloween party. On the right is a picture of Glinda and Elphaba, from Wicked. I was pretty impressed with their costumes, and as luck would have it, I happen to be reading Wicked right now, so I thought that the whole thing was pretty clever. I also took a picture of Elphie's (or rather, Kelly's) cute little monkey that was clinging to the tulle of her skirt.
The lovely geisha in the next photograph on the right is Crystal, who I already knew by reputation, but finally had the opportunity to meet in person. She had worked with Dave doing some studies for the Moller polarimeter Monte Carlo at Jlab a few summers ago, so when it came time to figure out the Moller systematics for G0, things were much easier because of her work. She is really fun, and we are going to play Halo2 together with some of the other students in the physics department Friday night. Then I will also find out what she looks like without the white makeup. :) The guy playing Arthur Dent from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is Chris, and he went to University of New Hampshire, so we chat about my home state. The decked-out pimp on the left is none other than Melanie, with her boyfriend Josh behind her (he's a grad student in the physics department, she is an actress). She played the role with style! The cool glasses are actually Josh's safety glasses from his lab. :)
So, now we get to me. Here I am on the right as a woodland faery (the photos of me were all taken by Bryan -- Thanks Bryan!). However, I was not the only faery in attendance at this party. Nate also came as a faery, and that is him in a really strange picture below on the left. :D I love that picture! I think that the pink wings really suit him! :D The guy with his suit on backwards behind me in the picture below is Stephen. That was pretty impressive. :)
We all had a marvelous time. Happy Halloween everyone!
One of these years I'll get to a real Halloween party. Looks like you had fun. :)
Elphie is a WONDERFUL choice for a costume, and including Chistery is a stroke of genius. Oh, and on whose suggestion are you reading this Wicked book? ;)
Good lord, that was Mel under there???
Last comment: wings suit you. Can you fly with them yet?

Hey Jason,
I had a great time. We should try to be in the same state for Halloween next year and dress up like we are in Dynasty Warriors 5. Since I have nearly a year, maybe that will give me time to find a spear and a horse...
Hmmm... I am reading Wicked because some guy named Jason told me to. :P
Yup, that's the lovely Mel under that cool hat and all that flashy paraphernalia. Isn't she great? She played the role with style, and even had perfected a cool walk like she owned the place.
Thank you, I like those wings very much. I cannot fly with them yet, but when I figure it out, I will certainly let you know. :)

That was some response. :) You'll have to tell Mel I was quite impressed with her get-up. Sadly, I think she pulls of a goatee better than I do! This would be going very far, but she didn't have any gold teeth did she? I had to ask.
Dynasty Warriors costumes sounds wonderful. Are you planning on holding the party outside or in a barn? Horses don't usually do well in interior locations - at least of houses.
As for the wings, after you learn to fly, be sure to teach me as well. :)
